// About Geisel

What does Geisel Software actually do?
We engineer the intelligence layer for autonomous systems, software that allows machines to perceive their environment, make real-time decisions, and act without continuous human input. This spans autonomous systems architecture, embedded firmware, edge AI, computer vision, multi-robot coordination, and systems integration. We do not build web/mobile applications or general software.
Is Geisel a consulting firm or a development firm?

We’re an engineering firm. Our engineers design, develop, and ship production systems.

We also engage at the strategy level: architecture reviews, technical due diligence, hardware selection, and product roadmap planning. The difference is that our strategy work is led by the same engineers who build and deploy these systems in the real world, not consultants advising on products they’ve never shipped.

How big is Geisel's team?
We are a focused team of senior engineers, all based in Worcester, MA. The team spans embedded systems, autonomous systems architecture, AI/ML, computer vision, and systems integration, the full stack required to engineer autonomous intelligence.
Where is Geisel located?
Worcester, Massachusetts. Our entire team is US-based.

// Capabilities & Fit

What is Geisel's specific area of expertise?
Autonomous systems software: the intelligence layer that allows machines to perceive, decide, and act. This includes embedded firmware, RTOS, sensor fusion, edge AI, computer vision, autonomous decision-making, multi-robot coordination, and human-machine interfaces.
Can Geisel help if we already have an engineering team?
Yes. Many of our engagements are with companies that have strong teams but lack specific depth for an autonomous capability. We integrate with your team and accelerate the specific bottleneck.
Do you work with startups?
Yes, if funding is secured and you have a defined program with a real delivery date. Pre-funding or exploratory engagements are typically not a good fit.
Does Geisel work on hardware?
Our primary expertise is software, from embedded firmware through autonomous systems architecture and AI. We integrate with your hardware platform rather than designing hardware ourselves.

// Engagement & Process

How does a Geisel engagement start?
With a qualification conversation. We'll ask about your program, what autonomous capability you need, your timeline, and your engineering situation. If there's a fit, we move to technical discovery before scoping.
Do you do fixed-price projects?
Well-defined programs can be fixed-price. Discovery and R&D typically use time-and-materials. We'll recommend the right model for your situation.
How long do engagements typically run?
Focused capability work: 3-6 months. Full autonomous systems programs: 12-24 months. We scope based on actual requirements, not a standard template.

// Industries Served

What industries does Geisel work in?
We serve four verticals: Defense, Aerospace & Space (NASA, Teledyne FLIR, U.S. defense unmanned systems), Industry 4.0 (AMR fleets, warehouse robotics, industrial automation), Medical Technology (connected medical devices under IEC 62304), and AgTech (agricultural robotics, vertical farming, automated greenhouses).
Do you work outside those four verticals?
Occasionally, when the underlying engineering problem is the same shape, perception, autonomy, embedded systems, edge AI, and the program is well-defined. The four verticals reflect where our customer base concentrates today, not a hard cap on what we’ll build.
Why these four and not others?
Each of these verticals shares the constraint that defines our work: software has to behave correctly under real-world conditions, often without the option to retry. Defense, aerospace, and Medical Technology add explicit compliance posture (ITAR, IEC 62304); Industry 4.0 and AgTech add scale and environmental realism. The engineering discipline is the same across all four.

// Compliance & Security

Is Geisel ITAR-ready?
Yes. Our US-based team and domestic IP posture make Geisel ready for ITAR requirements, defense documentation standards, and security-sensitive engagements.
Does Geisel use offshore resources?
No. Our engineering team is entirely US-based. This is structural, not project-by-project.
Can Geisel sign NDAs?
Yes. We sign mutual NDAs before substantive technical conversations.
